How to register a death

Please be aware that due to unprecedented demand we have limited appointment availability. As we are experiencing high volumes of queries at present, it may also take several days to respond to messages. Please accept our apologies for this and be assured that we will respond to you as soon as possible.

You should register a death at the register office of the district it occurred within 5 days, unless a coroner is investigating the circumstances of a death. Please note this does not apply at present, as appointment availability is limited.

There is a statutory fee for each certificate ordered at the time of registration, please see the fees and charges page. We only accept payment by credit/debit card. The registrar is unable to accept cash or personal cheques.
