Reading Borough Council is committing £9m to road and footway improvement work, which will see up to a third of Reading’s roads completely resurfaced. We are now in the second year of the scheme. Details from the first phase of the scheme are listed here.
These works relate to the final phase of the programme from 2020/21 (Year 1) Residential Roads Surfacing Contract that was awarded to Eurovia Infrastructure Limited.
The roads were identified as Gripfibre (high-stress) sites. This is a specialist material and requires warmer weather to lay.
|Elgar Road South||Katesgrove||Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 September 2021||Postponed|
|New Lane Hill||Norcot / Southcote / Tilehurst||Monday 6 and Tuesday 7 September 2021||Surfacing completed. Road sweeping due later this week. Road markings due in approx. 2 weeks.|
|Addington Road||Between Redlands and Craven Roads||Wednesday 8 and Thursday 9 September||Surfacing completed. Road sweeping due later this week. Road markings due in approx. 2 weeks.|
The contractor carrying out these works is a specialist company whose product is ideal for surfacing over concrete roads. We would have loved to bring them in during the summer school holidays, but as they are a small specialised company who work throughout the UK, we could only secure this time slot to carry out these works this year.
