Travelling by bus

Reading Buses have priority seats for older people and passengers with disabilities and most buses are accessible for most types of wheelchairs (but not mobility scooters).

In Reading, buses on the busiest routes are colour coded to help people with learning disabilities or cognitive impairment to find the bus they need.

Travelling to your workplace

If you can’t use public transport to get to your place of work due to disability, health or mental health condition, you may be eligible for an Access to Work grant towards your travel fees.

The Oracle Shopmobility Scheme

The Shopmobility Scheme provides scooters, wheelchairs and powerchairs to help people with mobility problems get around the town centre. New users must register with the service. Booking in advance is recommended – email Customer.Services@TheOracle.com or call 0118 965 9008.

Accessible facilities

Changing Places toilets offer extra facilities with extra features and more space to meet the needs of people with complex disabilities.

  • Broad Street Mall – Broad Street, Reading RG1 7QE. The toilet is on the first floor close to other toilet facilities and is fitted with specialist equipment including an overhead hoist.
  • Dinton Pastures Country Park– Davis Street, Hurst, Wokingham, RG10 0TH.
  • Royal Berkshire Hospital, Craven Road, Reading RG1 5AN. The toilet is located on Level 1 by the main entrance. The key is available 24/7 from security at main reception (Level 2).
  • The Oracle Shopping Centre accessible toilet, Reading RG1 2AG. The toilet is located on the ground floor.
