- Loose rugs or mats
Remove them or secure with nonslip backing.
- Carpets worn, bunched or lifting at the edges
Repair or tape edges flat.
- Clean and dry floors
Wipe spills immediately.
- Cables across the floor
Move them to the wall and secure with clips.
- Walkways
Keep the path to your chair clear of clutter.
- Furniture placing
Make sure furniture is arranged so that you can move freely around without squeezing through gaps.
- Good lighting
Make sure lighting is good at all times, including evenings.
- Light switches
Light switches should be easy to reach when entering the room. If they aren’t, consider a remote switch or motion sensor light.
- Chairs at right height
Your knees should be level with, or slightly below, your hips when seated.
- Chair with arms
Using a chair with arms can help you sit and stand more easily.
- Sturdy furniture
Make sure your furniture is sturdy and not wobbly.
- Low furniture
Don’t have coffee tables or footstools placed where you might trip over them.
