New skate park in Whitley

Whitley’s brand new skatepark has opened at John Rabson Recreation Ground for skateboard, BMX and scooter enthusiasts, both young and old to enjoy.

The new £375,000 facility, paid for through a combination of Community Infrastructure Levy and council capital funding, offers a variety of features designed to provide a safe and fun environment for all ages and skill levels.

The new skatepark features:

  • Bowled miniramp, with curves designed to progress the riders' skills towards achieving a figure of eight flowline
  • Split-level street area including an inline hip, driveway, bank-to-curb with quarterpipes and banks at each end of the park
  • Super-sized rail and grind ledge to lock in for long grinds
  • Designated seating area allowing for social interaction between the spectating friends and family

Grand opening event:

The official grand opening celebration which will be attended by Mayor of Reading, Cllr Mpofu Coles, will take place on Wednesday 30 July 12pm-4pm at John Rabson Recreation Ground. The event will feature skateboard, BMX and scooter competitions for all ages and abilities, professional rider demos, prizes, music, food and refreshments.

Cllr Adele Barnett-Ward, Reading’s Lead Councillor for Leisure and Culture said:

Whitley’s brand new skatepark is a significant addition to the local community, providing a dedicated space for young people and skateboard enthusiasts to connect and learn new skills. I’m told the rail and ledge can be used in both directions, whether you ride, 'Goofy' or 'Regular'!!
