Remembrance and Armistice Day events in Reading
People in Reading will come together to remember and honour the men and women who died while serving their country. Two events will take place, and everyone is welcome to attend.
Remembrance Sunday - 8 November
The main Remembrance Service will be held on Sunday 8 November in Reading town centre.
The service starts at 9.25am at Reading Minster. There will be readings from community and civic leaders.
After the service, a parade will leave the church at about 10.25am and make its way through the town centre to Forbury Gardens. The parade will be led by a military band, and members of the public are welcome to join.
At the Forbury War Memorial, there will be a Remembrance Ceremony. This will include the laying of wreaths, a two-minute silence at 11am, and a performance by Ukrainian choir Kryla.
Armistice Day - 11 November
On 11 November, Reading will mark Armistice Day with a short ceremony at the Forbury War Memorial.
The Mayor of Reading, Councillor Paul Gittings, will lead a two-minute silence at 11am. Residents are invited to attend and pay their respects.
Mayor of Reading, Councillor Paul Gittings said:
“I would encourage all residents to join me and others to pay their respects at this year’s Remembrance Sunday event on November 8 or the Armistice Day ceremony on 11 November at the Forbury War Memorial
“We must never forget the sacrifices made by those who have served, and indeed those who still serve, and never take for granted the freedoms we enjoy today as a result of their sacrifices.”
Leader of Reading Borough Council, Councillor Liz Terry said:
“Our town’s two Remembrance events are an important time of reflection for everyone and a time to pay tribute to the bravery, selflessness and courage of our personnel, both past and present.”
