Who can vote

The local election is on Thursday 7 May 2026.

To vote in the local election, you must:

• register to vote – the deadline to register is midnight on Monday 20 April 2026
• be 18 or over on the day of the election (polling day)
• be a British, Irish, Commonwealth or EU citizen
• be registered at an address in the area you want to vote in
• not be legally excluded from voting
