Cycling routes in Reading

Reading has a number of branded cycling routes, which are colour-coded and numbered by area 

  • The National Cycling Network (Red) – runs all through Reading and continues outside numbered 5, 4,422 and 23 offer quiet and pleasant alternatives for cyclists wishing to travel to and from Reading  
  • South Reading (Green) – Green Park & Whitley – (R1, R10)   
  • Reading & Wokingham (Brown) – RBH, Uni & Winnersh- (R2, R20, R21, R22) 
  • East Reading & Woodley (Orange) – Newtown & Bulmershe  –  (R3, R30)  
  • North Reading (Dark Pink) – Caversham & Emmer Green  – (R4, R40, R41)  
  • West Reading (Light Blue)- Tilehurst & Prospect path – (R50, R52) 
  •  South-West Reading  (Light pink) – Coley Park & Southcote – (R6, R60)  
  • North-West Reading (Blue) – Oxford Road & Tilehurst – (R5, R51) 
  • Linking routes (Light brown) – Cycle routes that link between or to existing branded cycling routes 
  • Town centre cycle routes (purple) 

The cycle routes are also classified by on/off road :

  • traffic free cycle routes – (bold full line)
  • on road cycle routes – both directions (dotted line)
  • on road cycle routes – one way (directional arrow heads) 

The map also shows all the cycle parking facilities available.

National Cycle Network – developed by Walk Wheel Cycle Trust – covers national cycling routes in all the country and allows you to search for national cycle routes that start of go through Reading or other locations.
