Resident’s parking permits and emissions-based charging

We’re introducing emissions-based charging for parking permits as part of our commitment to improving local air quality and reducing harmful vehicle emissions.

Why are we making this change?

Air pollution is a major environmental and health concern. By aligning parking permit charges with vehicle emissions, we aim to encourage the use of cleaner, greener vehicles and contribute to a healthier community.

Which permits are included?

The emissions-based charging will apply to all types of residents’ permits.

Visitor permits are not included in this change.

The list of permit types and charges can be found on the charges pages.

What happens when I renew my permit?

If your vehicle produces more than 151g/km of CO₂, the emissions-based charge will apply when you renew your permit. Vehicles with lower emissions will not see an increase.

What happens when I apply for a new permit?

All new permit applications will be assessed using the emissions-based charging structure. If your vehicle exceeds 151g/km of CO₂, the higher rate will apply.
