What is on-street parking?
On-street parking means parking your vehicle on the public road, usually alongside the kerb. It’s quite common in towns, cities and residential areas.
There are different types of on-street parking. Each type has different restrictions:
- Pay and display: you pay at a nearby machine and display a ticket in your window, or use the RingGo app
- Permit holder only: only residents with valid permits can park here
- Shared use bay: a marked road area with different types of parking and time restrictions – check the nearby signs for details
- Time-restricted: you can park here for free, but only for the short time – check the nearby sign for details
- Single yellow lines: no parking during restricted hours – check the nearby sign for details
- Double yellow lines: no parking at any time – except for loading or blue badge holders
- Disabled bays: reserved for blue badge holders
- Unrestricted: no signs or markings – you can park here, but still need to follow general rules such as not blocking driveways or junctions
Updates to parking machines
From June 2025, we’re updating the pay and display parking machines.
The old machines are being replaced with new digital ones that are easier to use, more reliable, and less expensive to look after – helping us provide a better service for residents.
In total, there will be 82 on-street parking machines:
- all machines will accept card payments
- all locations will offer RingGo payment options
- 20 machines will accept cash
Online receipt instructions
When using the ticketless card only machines in Reading, you use this website to download your receipt.
You will need to give your vehicle registration and the last 4 digits of your card.
If you paid via the Apple Pay function, please give the last 4 digits of the Apple Pay number. This can be found by opening Apple Pay Wallet, tapping the circle with 3 dots in the top right corner, and selecting ‘Card Number’. A new page will display your Apple Pay number.
If you used the Google Pay Wallet, you should give us the unique 4 numbers attached to your wallet.
