Sports ground safety certificate

You must apply for a General Ground Safety Certificate if you operate a:

  • sports ground or stadium that holds more than 10,000 spectators (5,000 for league football)
  • regulated stand (a stand at a sports ground or stadium which provides covered accommodation for 500 or more spectators if it is not already covered by above)

If your ground hosts an event that is not covered by the General Ground Safety Certificate, such as a music concert, marathon or other infrequent events, then you will need to apply for a Special Ground Safety Certificate.

The base charge to process these applications and issue certificates is £231. In addition to this you will be charged an hourly rate of £102 (including VAT) for officer time to review the accompanying documentation and undertake site visits that may be required. This will be discussed with you prior to or on receipt of your application. Additional charges for statutory advertising may also be applied.
