Emmer Green Community Centre

Emmer Green Community Centre is the home to some Reading Borough Council Services, Emmer Green Pre-School and after school club as well as other community groups and organisations. It is a single storey building that is accessible and offers a main hall, breakout area, kitchen and three meeting rooms. All can be hired for regular groups/events and parties.

How to find us

Emmer Green Youth and Community Centre is situated in North Caversham behind St Barnabas Church. The nearest bus routes are: numbers 22, 23 and 25 which provide a regular service throughout the day. The bus stop you need to use is called St Barnabas Church.

Parking

Please note: if you are travelling by car, there is very limited parking available at the centre due to its location, therefore we advise travelling by bus or getting a taxi.

Hiring this venue

The person hiring this venue must be at least 21 years of age and we may ask for evidence of age. The Main Hall and Lounge holds 100 people (standing) or 80 people (seated). Meeting Room 1 holds 12 people, Meeting Room 2 holds 18 people and Meeting Room 3 holds 15 people.

You will need to pay a £100 deposit in accordance with the terms and conditions below. The deposit is a separate charge from the private function rates of each room:

Non charity rate:

  • Hall & Lounge £32 per hour
  • Meeting Room 1 £11.40 per hour
  • Meeting Room 2 £11.40 per hour
  • Meeting Room 3 £11.40 per hour

Charity/not for profit, RBC and BFfC rate:

  • Hall & Lounge £18.50 per hour
  • Meeting Room 1 £7.40 per hour
  • Meeting Room 2 £7.40 per hour
  • Meeting Room 3 £7.40 per hour

One of hires will be subject to a fee of £25.00 plus VAT to allow for the security company to open and close the building.  On public bank holidays these fees is doubled.’  These hires will also be subject to a £100 booking deposit which is refundable providing the building is left as per our terms and conditions.

All groups and organisations will be required to provide a copy of their public liability insurance.  Private hires will be charged an additional 11% to covered by the Reading Borough Council policy

This is a non-smoking building, including vaping and e-cigarettes. This includes the grounds of the property, smoking must be outside of the property.

Supporting information

Some events may need you to send in extra information. Please see the list below:

  • Evidence of Public Liability Insurance at a minimum indemnity of £5million
  • A copy of your safeguarding policy if you are running activities for people under 19
  • A food hygiene certificate if you plan to serve food to the public
  • If you are planning to sell alcohol at your event, you need to obtain a Temporary Events Notice
  • A copy of your adults safeguarding policy if you are running sessions which may have vulnerable adults attending
