South Reading Community Hub

South Reading Community Hub is a multipurpose building that serves the local communities of South Reading. It is the home to Whitley Library, Sure Start Whitley Nursery and many activity groups run by the local community.

The hub offers a spacious large hall as well as recently refurbished smaller rooms which are all available for hire to members of the community. Other facilities include The Annexe (available for hire evenings and weekends), a Social Club and a Café.

How to find us

South Reading Community Hub is located on Northumberland Avenue and is easily accessible from the centre of Reading and the main train station (approximately 20 mins by bus). The nearest bus route is number 5, which provides a regular service throughout the day until 11pm. The bus stop you need to use is called Community Centre.

Parking

Please note: if you are travelling by car, there is very limited parking available at the centre due to its location, therefore we advise travelling by bus or getting a taxi.

Hiring this venue

The person hiring this venue must be at least 21 years of age and we may ask for evidence of age. The Hall holds 240 people (standing) or 140 people (seated). Room H holds 15 people, Room J holds 20 people, Room K holds 30 people, Room L holds 8 people, One to One Room holds 4 people and the Annex holds 40 people.

You will need to pay a £100 deposit in accordance with the terms and conditions below. The deposit is a separate charge from the private function rates of each room:

Non charity rate:

  • Hall with stage £40 per hour
  • Room H £11.40 per hour
  • Room J £11.40 per hour
  • Room K £14.25 per hour
  • Room L £11.40 per hour
  • One to One Room £11.40 per hour
  • Annexe Building £20 per hour

Charity/nor for profit, RBC and BFfC rate:

  • Hall with stage £28 per hour
  • Room H £7.40 per hour
  • Room J £7.40 per hour
  • Room K £10.50 per hour
  • Room L £7.40 per hour
  • One to One Room £7.40 per hour
  • Annexe Building £13.66 per hour

One of hires will be subject to a fee of £25.00 plus VAT to allow for the security company to open and close the building.  On public bank holidays these fees is doubled.’  These hires will also be subject to a £100 booking deposit which is refundable providing the building is left as per our terms and conditions.

All groups and organisations will be required to provide a copy of their public liability insurance.  Private hires will be charged an additional 11% to covered by the Reading Borough Council policy.

This is a non-smoking building, including vaping and e-cigarettes. This includes the grounds of the property, smoking must be outside of the property.

Supporting information

Some events may need you to send in extra information. Please see the list below:

  • Evidence of Public Liability Insurance at a minimum indemnity of £5million
  • A copy of your safeguarding policy if you are running activities for people under 19
  • A food hygiene certificate if you plan to serve food to the public
  • If you are planning to sell alcohol at your event, you need to obtain a Temporary Events Notice
  • A copy of your adults safeguarding policy if you are running sessions which may have vulnerable adults attending
