Libraries donation policy
Reading Borough Libraries welcomes donated items under the following conditions:
- Items must be in excellent condition (new or as new) unless we judge they are of particular historical or local value.
- Items must not be more than 3 years old, unless they are judged to be of particular historical or local value.
- No more than 10 items per customer.
- We do not accept AV items unless they are judged to be of particular historical or local value.
- We apply the same objective selection criteria to donated items as we do to those we buy.
- Donated items become the property of Reading Borough Libraries.
- We reserve the right to accept, reject, sell or otherwise dispose of donated materials.
- If we decide to keep the item it may be put into stock at any Reading Borough Library.
- We are unable to inform customers of the usage patterns of items put into stock.
- We are unable to return donated items to customers.
- The ultimate responsibility for including donations lies with the Library Services Manager. The manager delegates this responsibility to the Library Development team.
- Acknowledgement of donations: customers donating items will be asked to sign to say that they accept our donations policy. We are unable to acknowledge receipt of any unsolicited donations or author submissions received by post. Any received will be treated in accordance with our donations policy and may be disposed of if not suitable for stock. We are unable to return items received in the post.
