Register Office ceremony room

The Register Office’s Ceremony Room is located on the ground floor in the newly refurbished and purpose-designed part of Reading Museum and Town Hall. Couples wishing to marry in our Ceremony Room will need to make a provisional booking with the Reading Registration Service team and give their Notice of Marriage stating they would like to marry at the Reading Museum and Town Hall.

Fees

Please see our fees and charges page for a full breakdown of fees for the new ceremony room.

Capacity

Further to the lifting of government restrictions on attendee numbers, the maximum capacity for ceremonies in our ceremony room at Reading Museum and Town Hall is now 47 (including the couple, witnesses, photographer and all guests).

Booking a ceremony elsewhere in the Town Hall

If you would like exclusive use of a room (no ceremonies directly before and after, plus time to decorate and arrange the room) at the Town Hall for your wedding, please contact the Events team to check their availability. You will also need to book registrars to attend to conduct and register your wedding. Please note there is a fee for registrars to attend and register your wedding.

Music

The Register Office offers a range of classical music for weddings.

You may wish to enter the ceremony room to music of your own choice played from your mobile device, which you can connect by Bluetooth, CD or USB to our speakers. Please include your music selection on our online marriage planner, taking into consideration that religious music is not allowed in civil marriages.

Length of ceremony

Marriages in the Register Office’s ceremony room will take 15 to 20 minutes and we ask the couples and guests to arrive 15 minutes before the scheduled start. This is to allow the smooth and timely running of all the ceremonies on the day.

Access for wheelchairs

Access is available through the main entrance to the Town Hall.
