Have your say in the May local elections

The deadline to ensure you can have your say in May’s Reading Borough Council local and Police and Crime Commissioner elections is midnight on Monday 19th April. The quickest and easiest way is to register online . It takes just five minutes.

Reading Borough Council’s election team has been working hard for several months to plan for a Covid-secure election. Once registered, you can either vote in person at a polling station, by post, or by appointing someone they trust to vote on your behalf, known as a proxy vote.

Postal and postal proxy applications must be received by the Electoral Registration Office by 5pm on Tuesday April 20th, including for changes to existing postal, proxy and postal proxy votes. Contact elections@reading.gov.uk or phone 0118 937 3717 to apply.

If you prefer to vote in person, polling stations will be open as usual. When visiting your local polling station, please remember to:

  • Wear a face covering, unless you have a valid exemption
  • Bring your own pen or pencil
  • Carefully follow signs and guidance from polling station staff to adhere to social distancing

You can check whether they are registered to vote by contacting the Electoral Services Team, email elections@reading.gov.uk or phone 0118 937 3717. For more information, visit the FAQ page.
