Reading Station interchange enhancements

The issue

Reading station is already a major transport hub and is expected to become more so. However, travelling to and from the station by foot, bike or public transport is not always seen as a desirable option, and instead connections are made via car journeys

Enhancements to public transport in this include:

  • Upgraded bus stops giving real-time passenger information
  • Improved Active Travel to the station, including the connection between Reading Station and Christchurch Bridge
  • Secure cycle hubs
  • Signage and digital wayfinding to help visitors find their way to and from the station

The outcome

  • Improved attractiveness of rail travel
  • Improved air quality
  • Reduction in cycle theft
  • Increased Active Travel
  • Increased use of multi-modal journeys
