Katesgrove Community Centre

Katesgrove Children’s Centre is a community building that is being used on temporary basis to deliver family and children’s services to the local area. The main function of the centre is to hire its facilities to individuals, organisations and local groups in order to offer a variety of services to the local area. There is a large spacious main hall and a variety of smaller rooms which include a training room and a crèche. The centre also offers a generous outdoor space which includes an enclosed garden area, ideal for children groups or events

How to find us

Katesgrove Children’s Centre is located along Elgar Road and is easily accessible from the centre of Reading (approximately 15 minutes walk). The nearest bus route is number 11, which provides a regular service throughout the day. The bus stop you need to use is called Katesgrove Lane.

Please note: if you choose to travel by car, there is very limited parking available at the centre due to its location, therefore we advise walking, travelling by bus or getting a taxi.

Hiring this venue

The person hiring this venue must be at least 21 years of age and we may ask for evidence of age. The Hall holds 100 people (standing) or 70 people (seated). The Training Room holds 18 people, Meeting Room 1 holds 15 people and Meeting Room 2 holds 10 people.

Please note that meeting room 2 can only be booked out with the Hall.

You will need to pay a £100 deposit in accordance with the terms and conditions below. The deposit is a separate charge from the private function rates of each room:

Business rate:

  • Hall £18.51 per hour
  • Training Room £5.61 per hour
  • Meeting Room 1 £5.61 per hour
  • Meeting Room 2 £5.61 per hour
  • Kitchen £2.81 per hour

Charity and private function rate:

  • Hall £16.83 per hour
  • Training Room £4.48 per hour
  • Meeting Room 1 £4.48 per hour
  • Meeting Room 2 £4.48 per hour
  • Kitchen £2.24 per hour

Voluntary linked to RBC rate:

  • Hall £8.42 per hour
  • Training Room £2.81 per hour
  • Meeting Room 1 £2.81 per hour
  • Meeting Room 2 £2.81 per hour
  • Kitchen £1.12 per hour

You will be subject to a security fee of £25 + VAT per booking, or £50 + VAT for public and bank holidays.

For one-off bookings there is an additional charge of 11% on the hire cost for Public Liability Insurance.

This is a non-smoking building, including vaping and e-cigarettes. This includes the grounds of the property, smoking must be outside of the property.

Supporting information

Some events may need you to send in extra information. Please see the list below:

  • Evidence of Public Liability Insurance at a minimum indemnity of £5million
  • A copy of your safeguarding policy if you are running activities for people under 19
  • A food hygiene certificate if you plan to serve food to the public
  • If you are planning to sell alcohol at your event, you need to obtain a Temporary Events Notice
  • A copy of your adults safeguarding policy if you are running sessions which may have vulnerable adults attending
