We understand there are some journeys which will be made by private car.  

We want to increase the level of satisfaction across the network and reduce congestion for those journeys which can only be made by car. 

Reading roads have a lot of cars using them at peak times and congestion. This leads to poor air quality for everyone. 

The Local Transport Strategy 2040 has schemes and policies aimed at reducing congestion in Reading and improving the air quality in the borough. We want to make other forms of transport more attractive to encourage people out of their cars.  

The schemes we are working on include: 

  • Improving the reliability of public transport 
  • Making it safer and easier to walk and cycle 
  • Better Park and Ride provision
