Challenges – public transport

Through the Reading Transport Strategy 2040 we will try and break down the barriers which stop people using public transport.

Reading has a good and well used bus service, the majority of which run on clean fuel, and has one of the busiest railway stations outside of London.

Some perceptions around the use of public transport, cost and reliability need to be addressed.

They include:

  • improving accessibility of the buses
  • Improving availability to older people
  • Improve reliability by reducing congestion at peak times
  • More bus lanes
  • Affordable public transport
  • Making public transport safe
  • Focusing of connecting different areas rather than just from the town centre
  • Whole journey digital ticket purchasing

Read more about how we could reach these goals on our public transport policies page.
