Schemes and initiatives – public transport

The Public Transport schemes and initiatives contained in the Reading Transport Strategy 2040 aim to improve public transport and to make it more attractive for residents to use as part of their daily travel choices.

Choosing public transport trips reduce the number of private cars on the road, congestion and subsequently emissions. The aim is to encourage more trips to be made with public transport by continuing to make bus journeys more reliable and cost effective.

Public Transport has been a key focus in recent years, and we have delivered several major schemes, including

  • Brand new railway station at Reading Green Park
  • Major upgrades to Reading Station
  • South Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor
  • Mereoak Park and Ride facility
  • Bus priority measures at key routes across the town

We have also recently introduced a multi-operator fares reduction scheme, allowing passengers to travel around Reading for as little as £3.40 per day, using any combination of Bus Operators.

All our public transport schemes and initiatives can be found below.
